Strategic Advisory on SAFe Delivery and Agile Transformation

Ambition

In collaboration with the client, we identified several delivery challenges:

  • Time reporting: Limited transparency in capacity, forecasting, and alignment with the IT operating model.
  • KPI’s: Existing metrics lacked clarity and impact, providing little value to stakeholders.
  • Best practices & tools: Gaps in consistent application of SAFe practices and supporting tools, especially for PI planning.
  • Ceremonies: SAFe events (I&A, PI Planning, SoS) risked becoming status updates rather than value-driven collaboration.
  • Operating model: Dependency management and collaboration across delivery and support teams needed improvement.
Solution

We delivered a series of initiatives that directly addressed these pain points:

  • Time reporting: Introduced enhanced capacity and delivery forecasting, including forecast vs. actual tracking.
  • KPI’s: Conducted a full review of metrics, recommended a focused set of high-value KPIs, and embedded them into reporting.
  • Best practices & tools: Documented SAFe practice deviations and introduced a new collaboration tool with an improved PI planning board.
  • Ceremonies: Redesigned SoS, I&A, and PI Planning formats to emphasize dependency management, risk mitigation, and focused collaboration.
  • Operating model: Analyzed and facilitated improvements to integrate support teams with delivery teams, reduce bottlenecks, and strengthen cross-team collaboration.
Outcome

The engagement created measurable value by:

  • Providing greater visibility on delivery performance, enabling data-driven decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Establishing sharper KPIs that stakeholders found relevant and actionable.
  • Increasing ceremony effectiveness, shifting focus from status reporting to alignment, risk handling, and collaboration.
  • Enhancing the operating model, improving cross-team delivery capability and strengthening ownership.
