Streamlining PMO Disciplines for National Energy Initiative

Ambition

An ambitious national program was launched in 2020 to implement a strategic green-energy political agenda in the public sector. To scale and adequately monitor the program, standardization and operationalization of the PMO's functions were necessary. The objective was to establish and improve critical program management disciplines to enable the program to scale, ensure agility in an environment of increasing political ambitions and complex dependencies to national and foreign authorities.

Solution

Over a three-month period, Kopenhagen Konsulting helped improve, operationalized and train key program employees the following PMO disciplines:

  • Time plan management
  • Program Risk management, including strategic risk identification and management
  • Documentation management
  • Issue handling and progress tracking

Kopenhagen Konsulting provided the client with expert-advice on best-practice, defined ‘to-be’ state and helped adapt methods and tools to the program, including clarification of roles and responsibilities.

Outcome

The PMO's capabilities and maturity improved by:

  • Aligning program-wide time planning practices and automating updating of the program delivery plans incl. implementation and training in MS Project.
  • Documented and updated risk register incl. training of project resources.
  • Conceptualization and implementation of streamlined document management incl. setup of a SharePoint-based document management system.
  • Creating tools and implement practices to systematically track program progress and issues
